Understanding Ruqyah: A Spiritual Healing Tradition Rooted in Islam

In the journey toward holistic well-being, Islam provides a spiritual dimension that complements physical and emotional healing.

One profound tradition in this regard is Ruqyah, an Islamic practice deeply rooted in the Qur'aan and Sunnah, offering spiritual remedies for afflictions that may transcend the physical realm.

At AKArRushdiy HealthCare, we honor the significance of Ruqyah in our mission to integrate traditional healing methods with modern understanding.

What is Ruqyah?

Ruqyah refers to the recitation of specific verses from the Qur'aan, alongside supplications and invocations from authentic Hadith, for the purpose of spiritual and physical healing.

This practice, endorsed by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), is used to seek Allaah’s protection and cure from illnesses, evil influences, and spiritual afflictions such as black magic (sihr), envy (hasad), and Jinn possession.

Ruqyah is not merely a set of words; it embodies the essence of reliance on Allaah, connecting the reciter and the afflicted person to the Creator, the ultimate Healer.

The Roots of Ruqyah in Islamic Teachings

Ruqyah is firmly established in Islamic tradition.

Allaah says in the Qur'aan:

'Arabic Text:

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration:

Wa nunazzilu minal-Qur'ani ma huwa shifaa’un wa rahmatul lil-mu’mineen.

English Translation:

"And We send down from the Qur'aan that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers." (Qur'aan 17:82)

This verse underscores the healing power of the Qur'aan, which Ruqyah draws upon as its foundation.

Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed the use of Ruqyah, provided it does not contain anything contrary to Islamic teachings.

He said:

"There is no harm in Ruqyah as long as it does not involve Shirk." (Muslim)

How Ruqyah Works

Ruqyah serves as a spiritual shield and purifier.

The process typically involves:

1. Recitation of Qur'aanic Verses:

Specific verses like Surah Al-Fatihah, Ayat-ul-Kursi (Qur'aan 2:255), and the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah are known for their potent healing and protective qualities.

2. Prophetic Supplications:

Invocations such as "Bismillah, arqeeka" (In the name of Allaah, I perform Ruqyah for you) are used.

3. Blowing or Wiping:

After reciting, the practitioner may blow lightly on the person or object, sometimes accompanied by wiping with the hands.

4. Complete Tawakkul (Reliance on Allaah):

The effectiveness of Ruqyah is deeply tied to faith in Allaah as the ultimate source of healing.

The Benefits of Ruqyah

Ruqyah is beneficial not only for treating spiritual ailments but also for addressing physical and emotional challenges.

It promotes:

Relief from Spiritual Afflictions: Protects against Jinn possession, black magic, and the evil eye.

Physical Healing: Eases illnesses that may have spiritual roots.

Mental and Emotional Well-being: Offers tranquility and relief from anxiety, depression, and other emotional burdens.

Strengthened Faith: Deepens one’s connection with Allaah and reliance on Him.

Ruqyah in Modern Times

In today’s world, where spiritual challenges often manifest in subtle ways, the relevance of Ruqyah cannot be overstated.

At AKArRushdiy HealthCare, we incorporate Ruqyah into our holistic healing practices, recognizing its importance in combating the unseen forces that may impact health and well-being.

Our signature product, AKArRushdiy Herbal Elixir, embodies this principle by combining natural ingredients with Qur’aanic recitation, making it a comprehensive solution for physical and spiritual wellness.

How to Perform Ruqyah Safely

While Ruqyah is accessible to all Muslims, it must be practiced within the guidelines of Islam to avoid any form of innovation or deviation.

Here are some tips:

1. Use Authentic Sources: Ensure the verses and supplications are derived from the Qur'aan and Hadith.

2. Avoid Shirk (Polytheism): Ruqyah should solely rely on Allaah’s words and His power.

3. Maintain Purity: Perform Ruqyah in a state of physical and spiritual cleanliness.

4. Seek Knowledgeable Practitioners: For severe cases, consult those well-versed in Ruqyah and Islamic teachings.
